Street vendors from Shillong visited the Handloom Production Centre at the Garikhana campus. This initiative was organized by the Shillong Municipal Board in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship, Guwahati. Additionally, two Mass Communication students from Tezpur University participated as interns.
During the visit of Shri. Sudhakar Dalela, Ambassador of India to Bhutan and his team to enhance bilateral ties on trade, cultural, and tourism fronts, they were deeply impressed by the showcased work of the Department of Textiles, Meghalaya. Members of the department were extended an invitation to Thimphu to deliver lectures on Eri Silk and Natural Dyes. It was stated that the Royal Family in Bhutan utilizes Eri Silk fabrics with natural dyes for ceremonial events, sourced externally due to the absence of local rearing and spinning activities.
His Excellency expected further meaningful engagements with the State Government in general & Dept of Textiles in particular.
The Department of Textiles showcased "Ryndia" products at Bharat Tex 2024, India's largest textile exhibition in New Delhi from February 26th to 29th, 2024. Visitors showed keen interest in the displayed products. Participants included Meghalaya Age Ltd, designers Daniel Syiem and Christine Daisy G. Momin from Shillong, and M/s Silken Thread, TRIWEA. Despite being alongside Export House, they received satisfactory exposure and inquiries. Participating was deemed a valuable experience, providing insights into customer preferences and highlighting areas for improvement in quality control along the supply chain. The Meghalayan Age Limited expressed satisfaction with the collaboration. The event underscored the importance of quality improvement and assessing strengths and weaknesses across the production process.

These presentations are made by the Commissioner and Secretary of Textiles at the B2B business meetings, through exhibitions at the dedicated textile zone, and fashion displays by Vietnamese models in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, from October 27th to 29th, 2023.

This initiative is driven by AI and involves embedding each weave and loom with QR codes, which will further enhance the reputation of the state's unique, organically produced, ethically sourced, and naturally dyed Ryndia weaves while enabling weavers to command premium prices for their products.
