Celebrating the Eri Silk Weavers of Ri-Bhoi

Ri Bhoi district of Meghalaya is a major contributor to ericulture and weaving in the state, with many villages equipped with the knowledge of eri silk weaving.

Besides Umden being the epicentre of Ryndia or Eri silk in Meghalaya, there are many more villages in Ri-Bhoi who are apt with the skill of weaving and natural dyeing with eri silk and the village of Umkon is one of them.

Here is a group of women weavers of Umkon, showcasing their handwoven and naturally dyed eri silk shawls.
