Centre of Excellence
To effectively disseminate the improved package of practices to farmers and ensure the success of the silk industry in Meghalaya, skill seeding and enhancement of the Extension workforce and other industry stakeholders are crucial. Presently, the level of skill development among the extension workers and stakeholders is relatively low, which significantly impacts the production and productivity across all segments of the silk industry, including on-farm and off-farm activities.
To address this issue and boost skill development, the department  has set up a newly completed “Centre of Excellence for Training.” At the District Sericulture Office, Nongpoh, Ri-Bhoi District. This Centre aims to fulfil the skill development needs of the state’s workforce and the stakeholders involved in the silk industry. By prioritising skill enhancement among the extension workforce and industry stakeholders, the State aims to ensure that everyone involved in the silk industry can reap the full benefits of the efforts on the board for its development. With a well-equipped and efficiently run “Centre of Excellence for Training,” Meghalaya can pave the way for a thriving and sustainable silk industry, nurturing both the artisans’ capabilities and the sector’s overall growth
