Thain Ra is the name of the loom used in Plasha and other communities of Ri-Bhoi. It has similarities with the floor loom and the frame loom.
The parts of the loom are handmade from bamboo and what is different about this loom is that it is raised a little higher above the ground using bamboo and has a sitting area.
This loom looks like an upgraded version of the floor loom that the weavers of Ri-Bhoi use.
In Thain Ra, the weaving is done by hand without using the shuttle and the reed and the heald are used similar to when weaving with a frame loom. The weavers use this loom to weave with eri silk or cotton.
