Gentle Care for Eri Silk: The Art of Using Soap Nuts

The weavers of Ri-Bhoi practice this method of washing naturally dyed eri silk fabric with soap nuts because they are milder than soap preventing colour corrosion of the freshly dyed fabric.

The nuts are crushed and tied into a small cotton bag, then dipped into the water to wash the fabric without damaging it.
