Knotted fringe are typical elements of weaving in Meghalaya, and these fringes are called 'Syrnai' or ‘Thain syrnai’ by the weavers of Ri-Bhoi.

On Eri silk shawls, the knots are done by hand and it’s the last touch given by weavers creating tassels design after the weaving process is completed.
