Enter the magical world of NELA and be amazed at the creativity and vision of its founder, thirty-nine-year-old Shri James Eventis Dkhar has a string of qualifications in handlooms besides his school education. He is many things in one: a weaving teacher, master trainer, PRIME entrepreneur, and textile producer, and he has won many awards in the field of weaving. NELA, the first Flying 8 loom training centre cum production unit in India, came to life in 2018 at Umroh, Mawkasiang, East Khasi Hills District, intending to teach weaving and producing fabrics hitherto brought from neighbouring Assam. With twenty-six machines and twenty-five workers, NELA has, to date, churned out sixty trainees, out of whom fourteen have started their units.
