Mulberry silk is the highest quality silk available for purchase. Pure white in colour and made up of individual long fibres, it is one of the most refined and exquisite silks used in textiles.

Locally known as Rusom, Mulberry silk is popular among the weavers of Meghalaya. In order to promote Mulberry Silk Production in Meghalaya, the Department of Textiles has set up Sericulture farms, rearing, reeling centres and weaving centres to increase its production.
