Sohkhu is one of the most widely used natural colour fixatives by the weavers of Ri-Bhoi.
A dye bath of Sohkhu is often given to Eri silk yarn to improve or maintain colour. The yarn is often pre-mordanted before dying for achieving better colour fastness properties and for achieving some shades post-mordanting is also done.
The weavers often give the dyed yarn a second or a third dye bath to achieve the desired colour.
