Meghalaya is one of the only places that uses natural ingredients for fixing colours - mordanting, which makes it challenging, but interesting and unique from others.

In villages, most weavers use natural, mainly vegetable ingredients for dyeing their silk. Colours or dyes are made from flowers, leaves and tree barks collected by women from their home backyards.
