Natural dyeing is a community process in Ri-Bhoi, Meghalaya.

Most of the womenfolk come together to carry out this process that has been passed down from mothers to daughters for generations.

The natural dyeing process comprises multiple time-consuming steps -

i)Acquiring dyestuffs from the forests

ii)Preparation and processing of mordants & colours

iii)The yarn dyeing process.

The women folk from the villages perform all of these activities together to complete the process faster.
