The Dakmanda: Traditional Elegance of the Garo Tribe

Dakmanda is a wraparound worn by the Garo tribe paired with a matching stole and a blouse. A mainstay of a Garo woman’s wardrobe the Dakmanda is woven with motifs and patterns inspired by their cultural beliefs.

Here is a weaver weaving with the diamond motif on the border which is known as mikron, meaning the eye in Garo and is an auspicious symbol similar to the evil eye.
