Mangsang region of Garo Hills was locally popular for naturally dyeing of Eri silk yarns.
These desired plant-based dyes were obtained using various herbs, seeds, leaves, barks, and roots extracts.
Today many weavers from other regions have also acquired the skill of natural dyeing and they have learned to dye on other fibres besides eri silk.
The weavers from Garo Hills are also exploring new colours like yellow, green, etc besides black, red, and indigo that was majorly used on traditional fabrics.
