The Traditional Argon of the Hajong Community

The Hajong are a tribal group native to the northeast states of India and Bangladesh. The tribe is found in the Khasi Hills and along the South-West Garo Hills District of Meghalaya.

An Argon is a traditional shawl-like garment worn by the Hajong women. Argons are shuttle-woven and characterized by large-scale, symmetrical patterns featuring geometrical shapes and stylized leaves and flowers.
