Traditional Khasi Dhara: Muga Silk Attire and Its Cultural Significance

A Khasi woman in traditional wear “Dhara” made out of Muga silk and is worn by knotting the fabric on both shoulders and draped till the ankles. The Dhara has perpendicular and horizontal patterns on the borders with fringes at the bottom.

Worn by Khasi women on important occasions, the Dhara is often paired with Jain Tapmoh Ryndia or Eri Silk shawl, which is woven following age-old traditions.
