Weavers in Ri-Bhoi use local handmade tools to weave with Eri silk. Takli or Ka Phri is the first tool used by weavers for drafting the Eri silk fiber from the cocoon cakes.
Ka Phri has a head locally called Ka Khlieh Phri which is like a round disk on the top of the takli giving it weight so as to make it easier for the fiber to hang on to the spindle while drafting.
From the Phri, the fiber is then transferred to the Khwah where the Eri fiber is wound in a crisscross manner from the middle of the tool which is locally known as Sohpet Khwah (belly button in English).
The fiber removed from the Sohpet Khwah then forms a skein which makes it easier for weavers to wind it to the bobbin for weaving.
