Wangala Festival: Celebrating the Sun-God and Harvest with Drums and Dance

Celebrated by the Garo tribe of Meghalaya, Wangala Festival is held to honour “Saljong”, the Sun-God of fertility for a rich harvest.

Also known as the 100 drums festival, people on this day dress up in colourful traditional attires with headgears and dance along to the beat of the drums.

The Department of Textiles wishes everyone a bountiful harvest this Wangala.
